Meet Those Who Inspire Us

Jas.jpeg

Jaś (Poland)

Jaś is a boy full of warmth and constant curiosity — and a great love for people. His eyes light up whenever he discovers the world in his own unique way: touching, sifting, pouring. Although his speech is very limited and many of his feelings remain as if locked inside his body, he communicates through his gaze and his smile. Changes in his surroundings are difficult for him, which is why safety, stability, and the presence of loved ones mean so much.

From his earliest months, he fought for every stage of development: first to hold himself upright, then to sit on his own, and finally — at the age of three — to take his first steps. Today he continues to make progress, though he still doesn’t recognize everyday dangers and needs constant care. Since the age of seven, he has also been living with epilepsy and takes medication regularly.

Victoria (Spain)

Victoria lives with complex medical challenges, including early-onset epilepsy, central hearing loss (she is deaf), and severe visual impairment — she sees less than 10%, with very limited central vision but better peripheral vision. She also has profound developmental and intellectual disabilities and multiple neurological conditions affecting her brain development. Victoria faces significant gastrointestinal and feeding difficulties and is fed through a gastrostomy tube. Due to her condition, she has undergone several surgeries and requires constant medical care and ongoing treatment.

She does not walk or speak yet, but she responds to the world in her own beautiful ways. Victoria loves the swimming pool, playful activities at ONCE (the Spanish National Organization of the Blind), mirrors, and the sounds of birds — moments that spark her curiosity and bring out her smile. You can follow her adventures on social media — Facebook and Instagram.

Jerzy.jpg

Jerzy (Poland)

Jerzy feels best outdoors, where he loves to play and spend time with his older brother. Although he does not speak, he expresses himself very clearly through his gaze and his smile. He is curious about new faces and enjoys connecting with others.

Jerzy has significantly reduced muscle tone and has been receiving intensive physiotherapy since he was three months old. Low muscle tone also affects the muscles of the face and mouth, which is why his diet is limited in terms of food textures.

Jerzy struggles with sensory integration difficulties, poor weight gain, weak motor coordination, and developmental delays, which make him different from his peers in appearance, physical abilities, and skills. He requires intensive early developmental support and regular EEG examinations due to the high risk of epilepsy present in nearly all children with PUS3 syndrome.

Lottie.jpg

Lottie (USA)

Lottie is a bright, spirited girl with a strong will and a wonderful sense of humor. She loves snuggles, bath time, and music. She is not yet walking or talking and receives daily support from Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, a Speech Therapist, and ABA Therapy.

Her diagnoses include a kidney stone, Celiac Disease, Global Developmental Delay, Hypotonia, Amblyopia, and Autism. Despite these challenges, Lottie approaches each new day with remarkable resilience, meeting the world with determination and curiosity.

Caroline.jpg

Caroline (Germany)

Caroline is a little girl with a remarkable lightness and cheerfulness about her — the kind that can brighten an entire day. She explores the world with curiosity, sometimes quietly, and sometimes very loudly, especially when something delights or amuses her. She loves books, especially those with sounds, and music always brings out her most radiant smiles.

She is full of affection — when she sees someone she loves, she hugs them with all her strength, as if trying to hold on to the moment. She knows no envy or anger; she simply enjoys the little things, sharing her pure and honest joy with everyone around her.

Caroline lives with epilepsy and needs to take medication regularly. She is very small and delicate for her age. She learned to walk at the age of four and still moves with some unsteadiness and a touch of ataxia. She uses several aids — eye patches, glasses, and lower-leg orthoses — yet she faces each day with quiet determination. She speaks only a few words, but she communicates beautifully through her eyes, gestures, and laughter.

Tomek.jpeg

Tomek (Poland)

From the very first moment, you can feel a gentle brightness in Tomek — a kind of inner calm and cheer that can lighten any day. Despite many therapies and hospital stays, he keeps a sense of optimism that strengthens his whole family. He is happiest when playing with his beloved older sister or splashing in the water, laughing at every little splash.

Riding a horse during hippotherapy brings him pure joy, as does the warmth of his “auntie therapists,” with whom he gradually built a deep bond. And at night, he falls asleep cuddled up to his mom, surrounded by a mountain of soft toys that make his world feel safe and gentle.

Mateusz (Poland)

Mateusz is a boy who brings joy into his home. He feels happiest among his loved ones, surrounded by warmth and everyday closeness. He loves to help - especially with laundry, which he hangs out with care and pride. He values order and cleanliness, and also finds joy in simple pleasures: fresh bread rolls, juicy fruit, and the smiles of people who receive small gifts from him.

Mateusz has a moderate intellectual disability - he is still unable to read or write, and learning letters is very challenging for him. Every day, he works closely with a speech therapist, a hand therapist, a sensory integration therapist, and a physiotherapist. He also struggles with being overweight and with behavioral difficulties. Changes to decisions he has already made can be very hard for him, and in situations where things do not go his way, he displays self-injurious behaviors.

Filip (Poland)

Thanks to intensive therapy, Filip has managed to achieve a great deal, as nothing came to him naturally or easily—even such basic skills as rolling over, sitting, or walking. At times, skills he had already acquired would temporarily disappear. The onset of his first major epileptic seizure not only cut short a family holiday but also accelerated the diagnostic process. Continuous epileptic discharges during sleep led to a regression in his development.

Despite these challenges, Filip has retained a natural sense of joy that is visible in every gesture. He is happiest when he can create—putting puzzles together in his own way or building with the simplest blocks. Music can instantly lift his mood. Filip often seeks praise and tight hugs, and he especially enjoys helping others; in those moments, he truly blossoms, knowing that he is needed and appreciated.

Luca.jpeg

Luca (USA)

Luca is the youngest member of the family and their only son. At one and a half years old, he is full of curiosity and energy. He loves babbling, exploring his sisters’ toys, and staying on the move through enthusiastic army crawling.

Luca attends weekly physical therapy and has hypotonia, as well as an atypical form of club feet. He continues to grow and progress with consistent support and care.
